For a relatively short but glorious period, WTB offered a ‘home from home’ for the musical genius of Andrew Coote, whose long list of credits included trumpeter for the celebrated South African band, Mango Groove. Andrew first contacted WTB in late 2002 with the message that he could come to our gigs ready-equipped with the obligatory drink-holder. He quickly settled in with the rest of the band and became a dependable member of the horn section, thanks to his note-perfect sight-reading skills and highly melodic solos. Typically, we only gradually learned of his multiple, wide-ranging talents: music engineer, guitarist, songwriter, arranger, ‘brutus’-player, jogger, pilot, diver, and prodigious drinker of alcohol when the mood took him. Andrew made a decision in late 2005 to return to South Africa and he is sadly missed by all the serious musicians, drinkers and X-Box players in the band.
